Ghanaian start-up, Eagle Atlantic Airways (EAB), has announced that it will commence operations with effect from October 15 using a McDonnell Douglas MD82 (MSN 49119 | YR-OTN) on lease from Romania's Ten Airways (OTJ).

► GHANA: (Pics) Eagle Atlantic Airlines' first MD82 arrives in Accra.
Ghana's latest start up, Eagle Atlantic Airlines (EAB), has taken delivery of its first McDonnell Douglas MD82 (MSN 49119 | YR-OTN) which is on lease from Romanian leasers, Ten Airways (OTJ). As previously reported, following the reception of its AOC from the Ghanaian Civil Aviation Authority last week, Eagle Atlantic intends to serve Abidjan, Monrovia and Freetown before expanded further into the region.

Canadian Airways Congo has been operating a McDonnell Douglas MD82 (MSN 49278 | UR-WRE) wet leased from Ukrainian charter/carrier Bravo Air (BAY) to operate flights throughout the Republic of Congo.

■ SOUTH AFRICA: Global Aviation MD82 aborts takeoff from Joburg causing wheel fire; no casualties.
A chartered McDonnell Douglas MD82 (MSN: 49905 | ZS-TOG) flight QG-112 operated by Global Aviation carrying 120
passengers and seven crew members aborted take-off at around 07h15 this
morning at Johannesburg's O.R. Tambo International Airport en route to Lilongwe,
Malawi. It was later discovered that one of the tyres of the airplane had exploded on take off , causing a wheel to catch fire.
