Angolan flag carrier TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola (DT) has at long last added a second weekly frequency to its Luanda - Beijing, China route. The added Friday flight became effective September 21 and will be followed by an additional third frequency next year.

► KENYA: Fly540 increases Nairobi - Lodwar flights to 9x weekly.
Fly540 Kenya (5H) has announced that it has increased the frequency of flights between Nairobi (Jomo Kenyatta International Airport) and
Lodwar, the largest town in north-western Kenya, located west of Lake Turkana, from six to nine per week in response to rising demand. The LCC said it had added an additional flight on Monday, Wednesday and Friday respectively, resulting in two flights operating on each of
these days. The return flights operate via Eldoret.

► UNITED KINGDOM: British Airways announces further modifications to Entebbe, Cape Town, Tripoli.
British Airways (BA) has announced further modifications to its African timetable with a doubling of Cape Town frequencies due from October 27 and an added fourth weekly flight to Entebbe, Uganda due from March 31, 2014. Flights to Tripoli meanwhile have already been increased to four times weekly.

► TURKEY: Turkish Airlines to boost Algiers, Kigali/Entebbe, launch flights to Tobruk.
Turkish Airlines (TK) will effect various changes to its African route network over the coming weeks with flights Algiers to be increased from daily to 11x weekly with effect from September 18 until October 26. Additionally, AirlineRoute writes that the Entebbe via Kigali route will see a 6th weekly flight from October 27 with the frequency to go daily come November 14. The airline is also expected to announce its the launch of 3x weekly flights to its 4th Libyan destination, Tobruk, in mid October.
► UNITED KINGDOM: British Airways to axe Lusaka, increase Accra flights from late October.
British Airways (BA) has outlined its initial Winter 2013/14 schedule with tentative plans to axe its thrice weekly Lusaka, Zambia flights, AirlineRoute has reported. On a more positive note, Accra, Ghana will see an additional 3 weekly services being added . All changes are effective October 27.

► KENYA: Qatar Airways ramps up Nairobi to 18x weekly from September.
Qatar Airways (QR) has announced an increase in flights from Doha, Qatar to Nairobi, Kenya with effect from September 1. In its press release, the carrier said service will increase from 14x to 18x weekly using an Airbus A320 and comes as demand for flights to the Kenyan capital has steadily increased over the past three years.

► BURUNDI: Kenya Airways adds double daily flights to Bujumbura.
Kenya Airways (KQ) has increased its flights between Nairobi and Bujumbura, Burundi with the recent introduction of two daily direct flights; one in the evening and one in the morning operating on board an Embraer E170. Overall, there are now 21 weekly frequencies between the East African capitals.
► SOUTH AFRICA: British Airways reduces Johannesburg service from March 2014.
British Airways (BA) is to tentatively reduce its London Heathrow – Johannesburg operation with effect from 3 March 2014, with overall frequencies being reduced from 17x to 14x weekly. This is mainly due to the introduction of the Airbus A380 aircraft on the route, scheduled to enter service 3x weekly with effect from 12 February 2014 and which will increase to 6x weekly from 10 March 2014.

► ANGOLA: Air Namibia increases Luanda to daily from early August.
From 6 August 2013, Air Namibia (SW) will introduce an additional flight per week on Tuesdays on its Windhoek and Luanda route, bringing the total number of flights operated by the Namibian national carrier between the Namibian and Angolan capitals to seven weekly (i.e daily). Flights operate using an Airbus A319.

► DUBAI: Emirates outlines African routes to be affected by closure of DXB runway 12L/30R in 2014.

[UPDATE 27 MAY] As per 13MAY13 GDS Inventory display, Egyptair is currently planning to add a 4th weekly Cairo – Beijing flight, starting 01JUL13. The new flight will operate from Cairo on Mondays, Wednesdays from Beijing. Reservation for the new flight, however, is not currently available.
