■ MOZAMBIQUE: AdM issues tender for renovation, upgrade works for Maputo International Airport's runway 05/23.

Aeroportos de Moçambique (AdM) has reportedly issued a tender to all interested parties pertaining to the renovation, upgrading and expansion of Maputo International Airport's main 3'660m (12'007ft) long  runway 05/23, apron, and other facilities including all airfield lighting systems. The project is Phase III of the airport's upgrading programme.

In the announcement made via Radio Mozambique the project, financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement - AFD) now also has provision for a new fuel pipeline as well as a drainage works.

"It is expected that invitations to bid will be published in October 2013," indicates the tenderer, noting that the selection of the contractor will be based on criteria provided for by Hiring for Public Works Contracts, Supply of Goods and Services by the State legislation.

The AFD already provided AdM with USD1.6 million in 2011 to finance consulting services needed for the design of Maputo International Airport's airside infrastructure rehabilitation works, of which USD500'000 was used in the preparation of the requisite legal and engineering documents. The detailed design of the restoration project has been completed by Mozambican consulting company, DHV.

Should a satisfactory contractor be found, works are scheduled to begin in early 2014.
