► RUSSIA: Rosaviatsia reminds local carriers about unused South African traffic rights.

Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviatsia, has issued a reminder to local Russian airlines that there are still unused rights available for both passenger and cargo flights between Russia and South Africa.

1998 Aeroflot Route Map (airchive)
The agency says that the rights stem from an air services agreement signed between the Soviet Union and South Africa on December 27, 1992 which have provision for flights from the Russian Federation via intermediate points in Europe and Africa to Johannesburg and onward to any points beyond.

Aeroflot (SU), once renowned for operating very exotic routes involving four or five stopovers, was the last airline to operate a Moscow - Johannesburg route in the mid/late 1990s.
