Reports via Radio Mozambique state that during a General Meeting of Mozambique’s publicly owned national carrier, LAM - Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (TM) held yesterday in Maputo, Mr Carlos Jeque was appointed to the chairmanship of the board of Directors.

He holds a master's degree in business and legal sciences and was previously the Director of the Internal Audit Department at the Mozambican central bank (Banco de Moçambique).
He was also a Presidential candidate in the first multiparty elections held in 1994, though he was defeated. Last year, he ran for election to the presidency of the Mozambican Football Federation, where he lost to Feizal Sidat.

LAM is 91.15% owned by the Mozambican state. On its board of directors are Marlene Manave, Director General; Jeremias Tchamo, Financial Administrator, Paulo Negrão and two non-executive directors, Maria da Graça Fumo and Carlos Fumo. Jorge Marcelino, aide to Mozambican Finance Minister, Manuel Chang, chairs the Audit Committee, whose membership consists of Helena Cossa and Estevão Uamusse.
