Cameroon's Camair Co (QC) is reportedly in talks with an undisclosed aircraft leasing company regarding the possible addition of a Boeing 777 to its fleet. The jet will be used to replace its current lone 767-300ER used for long haul flights to France.
In an interview with Cameroonian tabloid BSPPROD, company Commercial Director, Christian Perchat, said the airline had chosen the 777 as it would allow for greater capacity with particular emphasis on increased Business & First Class seating; both of which are products in heavy demand on the airline's Douala - Yaoundé - Paris CDG route. Mr Perchat went on to add that, in line with CEO Matthijs Boertien's previously announced revised business plan, Camair-Co envisaged a future fleet of 26 aircraft by 2018 consisting of 4 long haul, 16 medium haul aircraft and six dedicated cargo jets included.
In the long term, Mr Perchat said his carrier would now consider adding flights to Guangzhou in China where there is a population of 300'000 ex-patriot Africans as well as possible flights to the US owing to its petroleum company links. Perchat stated that the airline wanted to exploit Cameroon's geographical location to create a hub to facilitate the flow of both passenger and cargo traffic between Africa and the outside world, with Brazil and Abu-Dhabi flights a possibility.
Regionally, flights to Accra, Ghana and Luanda, Angola are also on the cards though no firm commitment to their launch was given.
