SAA Cargo, the freight division of South African Airways (SA), has wet-leased a B737-400F, (MCN 1715 | S5-ABV), from Slovenia's Solinair (SOP). Regional competitor, Kenya Airways Cargo (KQ), recently upped its game through the addition of its first B737-300F, (MSN 29088 | 5Y-KQC).

The aircraft will help bolster SAA Cargo's small fleet which consists of two B737-200Fs and two B737-300Fs which it uses for both domestic and regional operations.
African carriers are increasingly turning their attention to the local and regional markets as a means of boosting their revenue streams as international routes now see tough competition from the likes of Turkish Airlines Cargo (TK), Emirates Cargo (EK) and Cargolux (CV).
