Leading on from our previous report, Air Burundi (8Y) says it intends to resume operations on June 1 with flights between Bujumbura and the Rwandan capital, Kigali, using its MA60 aircraft. The GDS however, has yet to reflect any open flights.

In addition to Kigali, flights between Bujumbura and Entebbe, Nairobi, Dar Es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Kinshasa are planned in due course. Thereafter, flights to "Southern African" destinations are to follow in the next 12 months, the carrier says.
The Burundian national carrier suspended operations 4 years ago when its sole remaining aircraft at the time, a Beechcraft 1900D, reached its maximum flying hours.
As the airline could not afford the impending major maintenance check, it was forced to ground itself indefinitely pending restructuring and recapitalization.
