The announcement was made this morning at a press briefing in Johannesburg held by South African Minister of Public Enterprises, Malusi Gigaba.
Minister Gigaba said Kalawe, an industry outsider and current CEO of Compass Group (South Africa), a global food services company, brought with him "extensive experience from both the private and public sector." As CEO, it will be Kalawe's responsibility to oversee the crisis-ridden airline's rehabilitation in line with its 9th turnaround strategy, due to be made public later this month.
No exact date regarding the start of Kalawe's tenure has been given as yet.
