Tope Fagbemi, the controversial Director of Human Resources & Corporate Planning at Nigeria's second largest carrier, AeroContractors (AJ), was on Friday, removed from her position, likely as a concession granted to striking workers whose 3 week long strike ended this past week.
During their industrial action, employees at Aero had accused Ms Fagbemi of "reducing negotiated and approved salaries of pilots and engineers, including allowances of the cabin crews, without recourse to their respective unions", and demanded her dismissal as one of the conditions to ending the strike.
“They have now come to understand what we were saying about her from the beginning. She wanted to kill the airline. We are so happy she’s gone now. Others will follow her,” said Motajo Abdukareen, Acting General Secretary of the National Union of Air Transport Employees, NUATE.
“No one will come and kill Aero. We built it with our sweat. No one can come and kill our airline,” a worker said.

While workers have been told to reapply for their jobs, Aero did resume full operations this week having been grounded by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority as a result of the strike.
