The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has officially issued a tender for the design, construction of the terminal building, supply and installation, testing, commissioning and handing over of a new Domestic Terminal at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Domestic flights in Kenya currently operate out of JKIA's Unit 3, part of the original terminal building that was commissioned in 1958, but which has become too small to adequately handle the country's surging tourism market.
According to the proposal, the KAA stipulates that the new passenger terminal adhere to the following requirements:
- to constitute floor area of "about 8'000sqm" on two levels
- be constructed of prefabricated wall panel, quick erect steel /aluminium frames and insulated roof panels with aesthetic acoustic ceiling.
- to have 26 domestic check in positions; 4 remote gates lounges and all associated utilities
