Arik Air Chairman, Joseph Arumemi-Ikhide, said in a statement on Monday that the airline would sign an agreement with Lufthansa Technik regarding what he termed, "the details of how the aircraft maintenance hangar would be rebuilt."

Upon its completion, the MRO hangar will perform major overhauls and repair to Arik Air's fleet as well as to other Nigerian airlines thereby helping to lower the costs of obligatory checks and maintenance which, thus far, have had to be done abroad.

During a tour of Arik Air's facility in the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos with Bombardier's President, Pierre Beaudoin, Mr. Arumemi-Ikhide called on the Federal Government to consider acquiring the Bombardier aircraft for domestic operators in lieu of its proposed deal with competitors Brazil's Embraer, adding that he believed the aircraft type was better suited to the Nigerian environment in terms of cost and other factors.
