The Namibian Airports Company (NAC) is currently constructing a new USD1.36million (NAD12.5million) state-of-the art fire and rescue station at Windhoek's Eros Airport. Together with an emergency control centre, as well as ablution and recreational facilities for staff, the new facilities will allow the airport to comply with standards stipulated by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

Emergency services will be provided by two 4x4 Panther Rosenbauer fire trucks that the airport imported late last year from Austria.
Future extension of the apron floodlights is also envisaged.
Conveniently located just 5km from Windhoek’s central business district, Eros is the busiest airport in Namibia in terms of aircraft movements. However, direct scheduled external flights have been prohibited since 2002.
As part of the NAC's long term Eros upgrade initiative upgrade, a new VIP terminal and hangar were completed last year along with a new blast fencing project which cost USD450'000.
Besides its government subsidy, the NAC also generates its own revenue through landing and parking fees with more than eleven commercial aircraft hangars, three maintenance facilities and three flight schools located on-site.
