The development comes on the back of a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) signed between the Maldives and Mauritius in late February in which the Mauritian designated carrier, Air Mauritius (MK), along with
Maldivian designated carriers, MegaMaldives Airlines and Island Aviation Services (also known as
Maldivian (Q2)), will be allowed to operate direct flights between Beijing and
Mauritius, as well as to provide direct air links to the Maldives.
Service is slated to operate with a Boeing 767-300ER and could pre-empt a possible Air Mauritius (MK) Beijing route, which Michael Sik Yuen, the Mauritian Minister of Tourism, allured to during MK's direct Mauritius - Shanghai route launch in February.
