■ LIBYA: Lufthansa Systems, Libyan Airlines sign 5 year deal for supply of flight ops software.

Libyan Airlines logoLufthansa Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group that  provides consulting and IT services for selected industries, today announced that Libyan Airlines (LN) has signed a five-year contract for its Lido/Flight flight planning solution as well as its Lido/RouteManual and Lido/eRouteManual navigation charts.

Covering all aspects of flight planning, Lido/Flight provides dispatchers with many optimization options regarding flight time, fuel consumption or costs of each flight. It takes into account the latest flight-related data such as weather conditions, total weight and the availability of airways, Lido/Flight calculates the most suitable route for each flight from all available options leading to fuel savings of up to five percent.

The paper-based Lido/RouteManual chart solution and its electronic counterpart, Lido/eRouteManual, will provide Libyan Airlines with navigation charts for take-off and landing procedures as well as airport and route charts. Generated directly from the Lido navigation database, the charts contain all important route information including altitude and airport data and are updated weekly.

We selected Lido/Flight because of its high degree of automation and strong route optimization capabilities,” said Captain Fadel Elkaseh, Flight Operations Director from Libyan Airlines.
For his part, Marco Cesa, Senior Vice President Regional Management Europe, Middle East & Africa at Lufthansa Systems said:

Based in Tripoli, Libyan Airlines is the national carrier of Libya. With its fleet of 16 aircraft (7 A320, 7 CRJ900 and 2 ATR42-500) the airline intends to relaunch service to destinations in Europe in March 2013.
