■ LIBERIA: Delta partners with Liberian Ministry of Transport to develop GPS approach procedures for RIA.

Delta AirlinesUS Carrier, Delta Air Lines is continuing to work closely with the Liberian Minister of Transport to develop and fine tune GPS Approach procedures to help improve the safety and reliability of aircraft operations at Monrovia's Roberts International Airport. As part of its ongoing commitment to Liberia and to the safety of its people, Delta has developed these GPS Approach procedures specifically for Liberia using U.S. Federal Aviation Administration standards.

GPS Approach procedures work by shifting navigational reliance from ground based instruments to aircraft based equipment which utilizes space-based GPS systems for navigation.

Delta is the only airline to offer direct service between Liberia and the United States and operates three weekly services to the U.S. via Accra. In order to improve overall safety at Robert's International, Delta began testing GPS approach technology in 2011 with the first successful test flight into Monrovia coming on Tuesday, June 19, 2012.
Delta is delighted to partner with the Government of Liberia to upgrade the country's airspace technology by improving its overall safety and reliability,” said Bobby Bryan, Delta's commercial manager for West and East Africa.
Safety is Delta's number one priority and this new GPS Approach will help ensure the safety of Roberts International benefiting all airlines flying into Liberia, as well as help to build further links between Liberia and the rest of the world.
Once adopted by the Liberian Government, these procedures will be available to any airline with properly equipped aircraft, opening up Roberts International to more international carriers.

The airline, in partnership with Air France-KLM, opened a dedicated terminal at Roberts International Airport in March 2012. Terminal B, which is exclusively for use by Delta and Air France-KLM, was jointly funded by the two airlines with the support of the Liberian Authorities.
