South African Airways (SA), its subsidiary SA Airlink (4Z) and competitor Comair Ltd, the British Airways franchise holder in South Africa in addition to owning LCC Kulula, have applied for new frequencies to the Democratic Republic of the Congo amongst other destinations as South African carriers seek to broaden their market bases.

Comair Ltd (BA Comair & Kulula)
- 6 weekly return flights from Johannesburg ORTIA to Lubumbashi, DRC
South African Airways (SA) has applied for flights from Johannesburg (ORTIA)/Cape Town/Durban to:
- DRC (Lubumbashi) - 2x weekly return flights
- DRC (Kinshasa) - 2x weekly return flights
- Seychelles (Mahé) - 1x weekly return flight (Code share)
- Peru (Lima) - 1x weekly return flight (Code share)
- Zimbabwe (Harare) - 3x weekly return flight
- Congo Brazzaville (Brazzaville) - 2x weekly return flight
- Congo Brazzaville (Pointe Noire) - 2x weekly return flight
SA Airlink (4Z):
- Johannesburg ORTIA- Mozambique (Pemba) - 7x weekly return flights.
No official confirmations have been heard from any of the above mentioned carriers regarding their route plans.
