"This is just a temporary measure in response to the current air traffic trends and demands. The season that has started is a low season in the industry. In the airline industry, we monitor the trends, and we are responsive to the demands of the market at any given time, bearing in mind the dynamics and economics of the industry we are in," said Paul Nakawa, spokesman for Air Namibia

Regarding Windhoek - Frankfurt, Air Namibia states that due to the Lease Agreements for the airline's two Airbus A340-300 used to service the Windhoek–Frankfurt route coming to an end in mid-2013, the airline is obliged to execute heavy maintenance work on these aircraft in order to meet the “return conditions” of the aircraft lease agreements with Lufthansa (LH). Therefore, the aircraft will be withdrawn from service one at a time, to facilitate the stated maintenance activities.
The Airbus A340-300s will be replaced by Airbus A330-200 aircraft expected to enter the airline’s fleet from October 2013, and in line with national carrier’s fleet renewal programme.
The route was already slated for a reduction from daily to 5x weekly flights during the period 19 January 2013 - 17 March 2013 as a result of reduced demand.
