■ MOZAMBIQUE: AdM's air traffic control comms network to be upgraded with PolarSat's VSATPlus 3.

Aeroportos de MoçambiqueMozambique's air traffic control communications network, under the control of Aeroportos de Moçambique (AdM), is to be ungraded with a VSATPlus 3 satellite communications network following the signing of a multi-phase contract between GECI, a worldwide high technology, engineering, E&M support and consulting group, and PolarSat Inc, a manufacturer of full mesh hubless VSAT modem technology.

The upgrade is a strategic element within AdM's master plan to improve its overall Communications, Navigations and Surveillance (CNS) systems throughout Mozambique.
We selected the PolarSat VSAT technology to serve our valued customers in our core market. PolarSat has an extensive successful track record in mission-critical Air Traffic Control settings. This technology expands GECI’s extensive CNS product mix and provides our customers with a complete solution to their Air Traffic Management (ATM) needs”, said Daniel Jimenez Randell, Vice President of Sales, GECI.

The Mozambique ATC network consists of total of 11 sites with two Air Traffic Control (ATC) regional control centres all connected in a full mesh all-IP based network. The VSAT network provides backbone connectivity for VHF voice communications relay to cover the whole continental airspace and Oceanic airspace delegated to the Beira Flight Information Region.

Mozambican airspace is divided into northern and southern regions that are controlled by their ATC control centres, located in Maputo and Beira. The VSATPlus3 provides geographic redundancy in transporting control centre traffic. In the event of a failure of one of the centres the VSATPlus3 system automatically provides connectivity to the other ATC centre.

All sites will support a complex mix of voice and data communications including hot lines, AFTN, AMHS, ADS B, Internet and general corporate internal communications.
