■ GUINEA: SOGEAC to embark on Phase 2 of Conakry Gbessia International Airport's expansion plan.

Société de Gestion et d'Exploitation de l'Aéroport de Conakry (Conakry Airport Authority - SOGEAC) the Guinean state enterprise charged with managing Conakry Gbessia International Airport, is to embark on the second phase of renovations at the airport following the completion of Phase I, started in 2009.

According to the Moodie Report, SOGEAC's board of directors has advertised for potential contractors to submit Expressions of Interest involving the management of architectural work, electricity and air conditioning, and sound and fire safety equipment upgrades. Tenders will be issued in a series of four lots, following which, a full tender will be issued in April with work slated to begin in July.

Designed by French architect Paul Andreu, Gbessia International was built and inaugurated in 1985. In 1987, a joint management deal was struck between SOGEAC and Aéroports de Paris Management (ADPM). In 2008, SOGEAC launched an EUR85million project to upgrade Gbessia with the overall aim of boosting the airport's handling capacity to 1million passengers/year.
