■ NIGERIA: Kaduna Airport to be ready by April: FAAN

FAANThe Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) says the Kaduna Airport remodelling project, located in the Northen Nigerian state of Kaduna, will be completed in three months. The airport was among the first 11 major domestic Nigerian airports scheduled for remodelling under the Nigerian Government's transformation programme.

At the last inspection by the General Manager of Corporate Communications at FAAN, Yakubu Dati, it was revealed the project had reached 80 per cent completion. and that with the current pace of work, the project would be ready for commissioning by April.
This is part of aviation master plan which includes the upgrade and development of dilapidated infrastructures, reformation of institutions, as well as the transformation of key airports into a network of domestic and international hubs,” Dati explained.

Meanwhile operations at the airport have been shifted to the Hajj terminal, commissioned in 2011, pending the completion of construction of the main terminal which will, on completion, boast world class lounges and traveller conveniences.

On completion, the airport will form part of a major hub with Kano's Mallam Aminu International Airport, with the development aiding in boosting the local economy as well as as well as increase the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
