Following speculation in the French aviation press, Air France (AF) has shot down any chance of closer strategic and financial ties with Mauritian carrier, Air Mauritius. The possibility of a tie up was discussed with French President François Hollande during the visit of Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navin Ramgoolam, to the Elysee Palace on January 21.

In an interview with French tourism paper Pros-du-Tourisme, the President and CEO of Air France, Alexandre de Juniac, brushed aside the notion stating:
"This warrants the same answer as we gave Alitalia; we do not have the means," he said.

Air France at present owns a direct 2.78% stake in the national airline of Mauritius.
Air Mauritius has said in the past that it would like to find a strategic partner who could assist with MK's own required future fleet renewal plans.
