In a presidential decree published on Thursday by state television CRTV, Douala-based carrier Camair-Co (QC) has appointed Chief Operating Officer Matthijs Boertien as the airline's new Chief Executive Officer. He takes over from fellow Dutchman Alex Van Elk whose contract was not renewed on its expiration in July 2012.

Boertien is a Professional Aviation Consultant with extensive experience in the aviation field. He is a former CEO at Dutch ACMI specialists Denim Air (J7) and co-founder of Amsterdam Airlines (WD), a defunct charter airline.
His arrival, however, comes at a time of grave crisis at the Cameroonian flag carrier which has been suspended from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) since 24 October 2012 over
outstanding bills. Boertien must also deal decisively with the fall out from Van Elk's legacy, mired in allegations of exuberant living, fat cat perks and sloppy accounting.
