[UPDATE 19 MAY] Having postponed their intended December launch of flights to Brazil via Lome, Togo owing to "inconvenient slot times given the airline" by the Brazilian aviation authorities, Ethiopian Airlines is said to be readying itself for a possible 1 June 2013 service to Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Brazil via Lome, Togo.

The Star Alliance member plans to operate a 3x weekly Addis Ababa – Lome – Rio de Janeiro – São Paulo – Lome – Addis Ababa service using Boeing 767-300ER aircraft with reservations now open.

[UPDATE 8 APRIL] Ethiopian Airlines is delaying its planned Brazil service launch by 1 month. The Star Alliance member will now begin 3 weekly Addis Ababa – Lome – Rio de Janeiro – Sao Paulo – Lome – Addis Ababa service on 01JUL13, instead of 01JUN13.
[UPDATE 19 MAY] According to Airline Route, Ethiopian Airlines has further revised planned Brazil operation, due to start from 01JUL13. The Star Alliance member is now planning to operate Boeing 787 aircraft on its 3 weekly Addis Ababa – Lome – Rio de Janeiro – Sao Pauo – Lome – Addis Ababa service, instead of Boeing 767.
