The Nigerian Presidency has confirmed the death of Governor Patrick Yakowa of northern Kaduna State, former National Security Adviser (NSA) General Owoye Azazi and four others involved in Saturday's crash of a Nigerian Navy Agusta A109E Power military helicopter in Nigeria's oil rich Niger Delta.

The other victims were the aides to the governor and the NSA, Dauda Tsoho and Warrant Officer Mohammed Kamal respectively, as well as the pilots, Commander Muritala Mohammed Daba and Lt. Adeyemi Sowole.
According to press reports, the Governor and his entourage were travelling to Bayelsa to attend the burial of the father of a presidential aide, Oronto Douglas, when their chopper came down at about 15h30L "around" the Nembe-Okoroba area in Bayelsa State.
In late October, a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan operated by the Taraba State Government and piloted by the Governor of Taraba State in Nigeria, Dambaba Sunta, crashed with 6 persons aboard. All survived.
