■ LIBYA: Afriqiyah unveils new logo and corporate identity.

AfriqiyahLibyan carrier, Afriqiyah Airlines (8U), last week unveiled a new logo and corporate identity at a ceremony held at the Rixos Hotel in Tripoli.

Selected from more than 60 entries, the new motif was designed by Saeed Al-Barouni, Manager of catering and in-flight services for the airline. The carrier has been looking to break with its past identity (the infamous 9s logo which represented the date of the African Union's founding following the Sirte Declaration - 9 September 1999), synonymous with that of the old Muammur Ghaddafi regime.

Barouni’s design is based on the markings of the turtle dove, a migratory bird found throughout Europe, North Africa and Asia and regarded as a universal symbol for love and devotion.

According to the airline, all aircraft undergoing maintenance will from now on receive the new livery, though the carrier's latest delivery, its seventh Airbus A320 (MSN 5414 | 5A-ONN), arrived in an all white livery.
