fastjet (FN) yesterday (Tuesday 27 November) celebrated its launch with its inaugural non-commercial flight from Dar es Salaam; a 40-minute round trip over the Indian Ocean above Zanzibar. Note: the carrier's official inaugural revenue flight is scheduled for Thursday 29 November.
On-board were various local celebrities, government functionaries, fastjet suits, press, members from the Ministry of Transport. In addition, fastjet CEO Ed Winter and Deputy Minister of Transport for Tanzania, Dr. Charles Tizeba were also present.

Fastjet plans to expand its fleet, all Airbus A319s, to 15 aircraft within 12
months with initial focus to be on East Africa, with hubs in Dar es
Salaam and Nairobi serving Kenya, Uganda and Zanzibar. Interestingly enough, with regards to a future Mogadishu, Somalia route:
"We're looking at a lot of different possible destinations," Mr Winter said. When asked if they might include Mogadishu, Somalia's capital, he said, "why not? There's a lot of demand."
