► TANZANIA: fastjet announces initial domestic and regional routes.

fastjetfastjet has revealed its first routes to be served when it launches later this month. In an bizarre interview with with Linzie Janis on Bloomberg Television's "Countdown," fastjet CEO, Ed Winter, announced the first destinations to be Tanzania, Kenya, South Sudan, Uganda and Rwanda, though could not give an exact date for operations to start, as "all the necessary government approvals were not yet in place."

Amongst the routes he announced are:

Domestic (Tanzania):
  • Dar es Salaam - Kilimanjaro
  • Dar es Salaam - Mwanza
Regionally:
  • Dar es Salaam (Tanzania)
  • Nairobi (Kenya), 
  • Entebbe (Uganda), 
  • Juba (South Sudan), 
  • Kigali (Rwanda)
Winter confirmed that the lowest fares will begin at USD20 with taxes included, with fares to dependent on the classic LCC model: time booked in advance, as well as services (meals, seating etc) onboard. The target market will also include families and not just business travelers. 

Lastly, Winter said that the carrier would also look to stimulating demand for local (that is, intra East African) tourism market using Zanzibar as an example.
