● SOUTH AFRICA: South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) warns of looming strike.

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) has given notice of an impending strike by members of the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) set for tomorrow Monday 25 November 2012.

According to a press release, union members will be picketing the SACAA's head office in Midrand, Gauteng over the "non-payment of bonuses during the 2010/11 financial year."

It went on to add:
"Management considers this to be an unprotected strike and contingency plans have been put in place to ensure that our clients are not affected negatively by the strike. We will endeavour to make sure that all services are available, albeit at a lesser scale. A skeleton staff will be put in place to manage all areas of the business. We do appeal for patience from our clients as we try to provide  them with the best possible service under the circumstances."

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) is a juristic body in the Department of Transport (DoT) and is tasked with promoting and maintaining "a safe, secure and sustainable civil aviation environment, by  regulating and overseeing the functioning and development of the industry in an efficient, cost-effective, and customer-friendly  manner according to international standards."
