[SEE NEW POST FOR ADDED UPDATES] Air Namibia's (SW) pilot union, the Namibian Airline Pilots Association (NAPA), has proceeded with industrial action after a breakdown in talks with the carrier's management. The strike went into effect this morning, Friday 16 November 2012 at 00h01.
According to Air Namibia, a deadlock arose between Air Namibia's management and the NAPA Executive over salary negotiations. Management is said to have offered a 5% salary increment on cost to company (ctc) across the board, backdated 01 April 2012 which the Union is said to have declined.

[UPDATE 19 NOVEMBER] According to The Namibian newspaper, the strike appears to be entering its fourth day, with negotiations between Management and the pilot's Union still ongoing.
Since the onset of the strike on Friday, the Namibian national airline has been using contract pilots and has given passengers the opportunity to reschedule or cancel their flights.
A statement is expected this afternoon.

Due to the current on-going NAPA industrial action, Air Namibia has worked out a contingency plan to ensure minimal disruptions on its operations; negotiations are still on-going between NAPA and management in order to finding a solution.
