► GHANA: Antrak Air adds second ATR72 to its fleet.

Antrak AirGhanaian domestic operator Antrak Air (O4) last week took delivery of its second ATR72-200 (MCN: 171 | EC-KAD) from Spain's Swiftair, a month after the airline returned to active service with another Swiftair ATR72, as the Ghanaian airline scene begins to heat up.

As a wholly Ghanaian-owned company incorporated in December 2001 and having commenced operations in September 2003, Antrak Air Ghana is attempting to re-enter the domestic market with very competitive fares in a big to recapture its chunk of the market, lost in May, when its then sole ATR42 caught fire.

The launch last week of Africa World Airlines (AW), along with the news that CTK CiTyLinK is in tie up talks with Egyptair (MS) and South African Airways considering a Mango hub in Accra in the near future, in addition to Fly540 Ghana launching a bevy of regional routes in the coming weeks, point to a very tough market ahead not just for Antrak, but for all players involved.
