► ALGERIA: Air Algérie Boeing 737 lands short of runway at Algiers; no injuries.

Air Algérie logoAn Air Algérie (AH) Boeing 737-800 (MCN: 34164 | 7T-VKA), operating domestic flight AH6231 from Tamanrasset, Algeria to Algiers Houari Boumediene Airport on 18 September 2012, at 03h25 local time, reportedly landed ahead of the runway threshold on the paved surface of the runway end safety area, to the right of the extended runway centreline, thereby taking out a number of runway end and edge lights during the subsequent roll out.

No injuries occurred, though the aircraft did receive damage to its tyres, whilst several runway lights were taken out.

"7T-VKA was descending towards Algiers, that was covered in fog and visibility of 100 meters. Although all other aircraft had diverted, the crew decided to perform a CAT II autoland approach to Algiers' runway 09; the approach legally required a visibility of 800 meters and a RVR of 550 meters.

The NOTAMs, in addition, prohibited the use of the autopilot within 5nm from the threshold of runway 09. The aircraft intercept the ILS 09 and tracked parallel to the localizer slightly to the right of the extended runway centerline, touched down ahead of the threshold on the paved surface of the runway end safety area to the right of the extended runway centerline and took out a number of runway end and runway edge lights during the resulting roll out at 03:25L (02:25Z).
