►► ZIMBABWE: KLM to restart Harare service from 29 October.

[UPDATE 14 MARCH] After a 10 year hiatus from the Zimbabwean capital Harare, KLM Dutch Airlines (KL) has announced the resumption of its Amsterdam - Harare service, albeit with a stopover in Lusaka.

Flight KL523 will be operated with an Airbus A330-200 on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, departing from Schiphol at 10.20 hrs and arriving in Harare on the same day at 21.25 hrs. The return leg of the circle trip has the same number, KL523, leaving Harare at 22.30 hrs the same day, with an intermediate landing in Lusaka. The flight arrives in Amsterdam the following morning at 10.20 hrs.

KLM previously served Harare in the 90s with a biweekly Amsterdam - Harare flight using a DC 10-30 that eventually switched to a 747 via Johannesburg.

[UPDATE 14 MARCH] Starting today (14MAR13), KLM has been awarded 5th freedom rights between Harare – Lusaka and will now be able to provide carriage for passengers travelling between Harare and Lusaka, thereby competing with Emirates (EK), Kenya Airways (KQ) and Ethiopian Airlines (ET).
