► TANZANIA: Precision Air to restart Arusha from July; postpones Lubumbashi & Lusaka.

Precision Air With renovations to the runway at Arusha's International Airport nearing completion, Tanzanian private carrier Precision Air (PW) has announced the resumption of daily flights to Arusha with effect from July 10. For the duration of the renovation works, passengers have had to use Kilimanjaro International Airport - 50 km away. 


“Many of our customers have been complaining of inconveniences caused  when forced to land at the Kilimanjaro International Airport when the Arusha airport was closed,” Managing Director of PrecisionAir Group Mr Alfonse Kioko said.

Done using World Bank funds and costing USD$42million, the airport has rehabilitated and upgraded its runway, increased its aircraft apron size from 9,800 square meters to 22,000 square meters, upgraded its taxiways and access road, and also pushed ahead with the construction of a new terminal building along with various security improvements.

In the meantime, Precision Air (PW) has postponed the launch of its proposed Dar es Salaam – Lubumbashi – Lusaka, which should have started operation on 18 May 2012, to 22 June 2012. Its other new route Dar es Salaam – Lilongwe – Harare was also postponed until 3 July 2012.
